ABOUT ME

My name is Samuel Lamkin, and I am a Baylor University graduate. I majored in Journalism with a concentration in advertising, and I have a minor in business administration. I grew up all over the United States and Europe, as my dad was in the Air Force. Upon his retirement in Honolulu, Hawaii, we settled in Waco, Texas.

In 2015, I received my first DSLR camera (a Canon T5 Rebel) as a Christmas gift. Initially, I was very confused about, how to use it but after about a year of trial and error, I really started to gain momentum. After about 3 years I began to understand the importance of composition and how to use more advanced techniques.

In my sophomore year of high school, I took an introductory photography class, and a year later, I joined the yearbook staff as a photographer. After a year of being a staff photographer, I became the editor-in-chief of the yearbook for my senior year.

When I attended Baylor, I took three photography classes, two graphic design classes, several advertising and research classes, and dozens of journalistic classes where I learned how to write professionally.

In 2022, I applied for a job with Baylor Athletic Communications, where I was a part-time student photographer. I worked with a small group of photographers and covered every sport from football to equestrian. My photos were distributed to the athletes and their families through a program called INFLCR (Influencer)Additionally, my photos were used for official Baylor athletic social media posts while sporting events were in progress.

After graduation, I worked at the municipal animal shelter for McLennan County, Pet Circle Regional Animal Shelter. When I first joined the team, the shelter was going through a change in management, so everything was uprooted, and new practices and policies were being implemented. I absolutely loved this job, being able to work with animals and people who shared the same passions as me was a godsend. Unfortunately, the animal services department received news that a major budget cut was going to cut our merit raises and working hours, with no new staff being hired. After this news, and a few weeks, it was time for my time at the animal shelter to come to a close.

As a result of departing the animal shelter, I took up a new job with Texas State Technical College (TSTC) as an events management specialist. I quickly discovered this was not the ideal job for me, and unfortunately was on the job hunt once again.

I quickly found a job as a professional surf photographer at Waco Surf, an inland surf facility and waterpark. It has been an amazing job, being able to work with professional surfers and guests from around the world. Not to mention, I get to be outside all day with fresh air, and back at my roots with photography.

My career goal is to become a wildlife photographer and travel to remote areas to document animals in their natural habitats. In turn, I want to showcase the beautiful flora and fauna we live amongst to raise awareness for habitat destruction and endangered animals that might disappear within our lifetime.

My creative work has always had a major focus on animals and nature. If you'd like to view my photography portfolios, graphic design portfolios, and advertising portfolio, they can be found using the banner at the top of the page.
